+ UAL Central Saint Martin’s Postcard Brief

This project was inspired by a podcast, “The First Straw” by 99 Percent Invisible. The episode featured the history of plastic straws, an object that has recently been receiving negative popularity. “Throw-away living,” specifically plastic, became a necessity less than 100 years ago. This issue has created an impeccable issue on our planet, as it is estimated that 91 percent of plastic is not recycled. This post card uses plastic straws to illustrate the shocking statistic of the truth about recycled plastic.

Focusing on recycled materials, I was inspired to create a durable alternative to the singe-use plastic straw. These found materials included posters, magazine pages and covers, newspapers, take-away menus and phonebook pages.
